Property Flood Resilient Surveyor course and certification scheme

BRE Academy have now launched their Property Flood Resilient Surveyor course to train suitably qualified individuals to conduct impartial flood risk assessments on properties within the UK.

In support of DEFRAs Property Flood Resilience Action Plan to implement standards, certifications and skills to provide reassurance that work has been done correctly and to a high standard, BRE Academy has partnered with BRE’s Centre for Resilience and Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) to create a training course which addresses the fundamentals of flood resilience surveying, assessing flood risk and the specification of mitigation measures.

To become a Certified Property Flood Resilience Surveyor you will need to have appropriate experience and qualification – full details are available from BRE.

PFR surveyors are independent from manufacturers and installers involved in the PFR sector and form a key advisor to homeowners and business owners.  The certification scheme will help ensure property owners have the necessary information and confidence to install flood resilience measures to protect their homes and businesses.

To achieve this a certificated independent property flood resilience surveyor will carry out the following:

  • Assess the flood risk to the property, including the type(s) of flood risk involved, the likely maximum depth, duration and extent of flood risk.
  • Survey the flood affected property, or property considered to be at risk from flooding, and prepare a report that includes information about the measures considered to be most effective for the resilience of the property to future flooding events.
  • On completion of all works confirm the details of the installed measures and upload this information to the Property Flood Resilience Database.
